Nursing: LPN/LVN to BSN Track

Description

The LPN/LVN to BSN Track offers licensed practical/vocational nurses a means through which they may complete a bachelor of science in nursing, and achieve eligibility to apply to take the RN licensure examination.

The track combines theory and clinical nursing courses, required support courses, and Foundational Studies courses and electives. The track is completed through online learning.

Leadership opportunities include: the Indiana State University Student Nurses Association; Lambda Sigma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing; and other University organizations.

Note:  Successful completion of program requirements makes you eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN through the Indiana Board of Nursing. The NCLEX-RN may be taken anywhere in the country and if successfully passed, will result in an Indiana Registered Nursing License. Graduates of the program can then proceed to request an endorsed license in the state in which they reside. Please contact your state licensing authority to assure that, upon completion of the Indiana State University LPN/LVN to BSN Track, you are qualified to obtain a license or other form of certification. If you need assistance obtaining contact information for the licensing authority in states outside of Indiana, contact Indiana State Online representatives at (812) 237-2345 or IndianaStateOnline@indstate.

Careers

The baccalaureate degree program is recognized as the basic preparation for professional nursing practice. Baccalaureate graduates are prepared to provide direct and indirect nursing care. The graduate also is prepared as a communicator, educator, and advocate and can assume beginning leadership roles. Baccalaureate nursing education is foundational for graduate study in nursing.

There are many and varied employment opportunities for registered nurses who have a baccalaureate degree. In hospitals and other health care settings, baccalaureate nurses are practicing in ways that recognize their educational preparation and nursing competencies.

Baccalaureate nurses have more complex nursing care responsibilities in providing direct care. They supervise other personnel who provide nursing care. They also collaborate with other health care professionals in developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive plans of health care for patients/clients of all ages in a variety of settings.

In addition, the University's Nursing Program is approved by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN).
