Engineering Technology Management (BS)

Description

The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in engineering technology management that prepares students for careers in supervision and management in a variety of technological fields.

The Engineering Technology Management Program focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to creatively apply technology and human resources to solve problems. The program is designed primarily as a bachelor degree-completion program for transfer students who have completed an accredited associate of science (AS) or associate of applied science (AAS) in industrial and engineering technology related fields. In addition, the department offers a program of study for freshmen or transfer students without an approved technical associate degree. Each student works with an academic advisor to custom build a program of study based on the student's educational background and future professional goals.

Coursework combines theory with practical skills in such areas as:

  • Creative problem solving
  • Economic analysis
  • Health and safety
  • Industrial organization and functions
  • Production planning
  • Project management
  • Quality control
  • Supervision
  • Workplace law

In addition, students complete the University's Foundational Studies Program, which provides the knowledge students need in critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal and communication skills.

Courses in the major are taught by full-time professors who have actual work experience in the field. The department offers small class sizes, which allow for individual attention. Coursework is centered in the University's John T. Myers Technology Center, which has more than 20 state-of-the-art laboratories filled with up-to-date equipment and supplies.

A number of activities and organizations are available that enable students to interact with other students and professionals in the industry. These include the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME); American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE); Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP); and Epsilon Pi Tau (the international honorary for professions in technology).

Special Note: The Engineering Technology Management Program is offered on the Terre Haute campus. The last two years are also offered via online learning.
