Tanya Bell Mckinzie

Tanya Mckinzie, Brownsburg, was appointed to the ISU Board of Trustees in 2008. She earned her undergraduate degree in social studies education from ISU and graduated cum laude from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at Indiana University where she obtained her juris doctorate.  Trustee Mckinzie is president and chief executive officer of Indiana Black Expo, Inc., a non-profit organization with 12 chapters throughout Indiana. Before joining Black Expo, she served as assistant general counsel for Community Health Network of Indianapolis and as an adjunct professor in legal writing at the Indiana University School of Law. In 2014, Trustee Mckinzie was appointed by former Mayor Greg Ballard as the co-chair of Your Life Matters Anti-violence Task Force. She also serves on the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the City of Indianapolis Plan 2020 Advisory Board. She previously served as a board member for United Way of Central Indiana, Indiana Sports Corporation, Visit Indy, and the 2012 Super Bowl Civic Advisory Board. Trustee Mckinzie also previously served as secretary of the Board of Trustees. She has received numerous accolades including the 2019 Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award from the Boy Scouts Crossroads of America Chapter and a Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor Eric Holcomb and has been recognized in the Indianapolis Business Journal's Women of Influence, Forty under 40 and Who's Who in Hospitality editions.
