Survival in Extreme Environments

Extreme EnvironmentHumans are perhaps the most adaptable creatures that live on earth. Some people have climbed Mt. Everest without the aid of oxygen, others have completed an ultra-marathon through Death Valley in the middle of the summer, while others have lived on the South Pole for months at a time. With the assistance of our on-campus environment chamber, this seminar will discuss how our bodies adapt to these extreme environments, the physiological risks to experiencing those extreme environments, and ultimately what allows humans to survive when exposed to environments that should be seemingly lethal.
