Description

The Women's Equality Day March is a civic non-partisan campus/community event to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment, giving all US women full voting rights. Equal Rights Day is nationally recognized on August 26. This is year 99! This year's march will occur on Monday, August 26 with pre-march activities beginning at 5:15, including making posters, in ISU Parking Lot G (corner Chestnut and 9th Streets).

Following a short program at 6 p.m., marchers will proceed along the east, south and west side of campus accompanied by songs of the suffragists. The event will conclude at Dede Plaza, with a short closing program, refreshments, and resource/display tables, including voter registration. A tram is available for persons unable to walk the route. Attendees are invited to dress up in period costume (1910s, 1920s or 1970s) or just come as you are. Bring a yellow parasol or umbrella.

March as a group behind your banner, just the suffrage marches a century ago. You can bring women's personal hygiene items, which will be donated to local shelters. Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters-Vigo County, ISU Office of the President, ISU Community Engagement, ISU Library and community businesses and organizations.
