Campus Resources

We want to encourage and teach our mentees how to access and leverage resources that are readily available on our campus, but are underutilized. We would hope our mentors will help guide mentees to these resources and ensure their mentees take full advantage of these tools.

Academic Support:

Services Offered Through the Center for Student Success

Tutoring

Tutorial Services offered by CFSS are free of charge and open to all ISU students currently enrolled. A combination of one-on-one and small group tutorials are offered for many courses. Some courses are tutored by appointment, while other courses math, for example) lend themselves better to a walk-in type system. Tutoring may be long-term, short-term, or single visit, depending upon the needs of the student. Students are tutored on a first come, first served basis throughout the semester. To sign-up for tutoring, students need to come to the ground floor of Normal Hall front desk.

Supplemental Instruction Sessions

Supplemental Instruction (SI), an internationally recognized academic support program, offers free, regularly scheduled, out-of-class, review sessions for historically difficult courses.  SI study sessions are informal seminars in which students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools and predict test items. Students learn how to integrate course content and reasoning skills, and those who attend SI sessions on a regular basis earn higher test scores than non-SI participants. Sessions are facilitated by SI Leaders, students who have not only demonstrated proficiency in their targeted course, but who act as a model student by attending the class and taking notes.  Students are notified in class if an SI has been assigned to it.  If your mentee has SI available, encourage attendance.

Student Support Services

The Student Support Services Office provides programming and resources for eligible first-generation, low-income, and/or students with learning or physical disabilities. The federally funded program is designed to help students who feel they may need particular academic supports in order to successfully complete course work.

Additionally, the staff often serves as liaisons between students and faculty members. They will help to introduce students to the university environment and policies, increase their awareness of their own capabilities, and encourage students to create their own support environments. For information on disability services or to request accommodations, go to https://www.indstate.edu/services/student-success/cfss/student-support-services

21st Century Scholars

This office provides 21st Century Scholars with information about their scholarship and its requirements.  The staff advise the student organization ScholarCorps which provides Scholars a chance to network and discuss campus opportunities.  The ISU 21st Century Scholars Office also plans events such as financial aid workshops, study break events, and community service opportunities.    https://www.indstate.edu/services/student-success/cfss
