Expertise and Activity Statement
Dr. Fernandez received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin--Madison in 1974 and 1982 respectively and his bachelor's from the University of Arkansas-- Fayetteville in 1973.
His areas of specialization include Comparative Politics (with a concentration on Latin American politics) and International Relations. His current research interests are on Cuban political change and the Cuban diaspora. He has edited a book on Hispanic migration to the U.S. and has written articles dealing with the politics of immigration.
